Ever since their appearance at The Great Escape festival back in 2017, we’ve been on the trail of hotly-tipped Brighton band THYLA. If you’re a TMR regular you may have come across List Picks ‘Pristine Dream’, ‘Tell Each Other Lies’, ‘I Was Biting’, ‘Blame’ and ‘Candy’. Their newest single ‘Blue’ is another fine example of their dream-pop meets post-punk style. Swinging from serene contemplation to racukus energy, ‘Blue’ is a roaring track of thundering guitars, dreamy melodies, and Millie Duthie’s igniting vocals which deliver the multi-faceted lyrics with bold charisma. Speaking of the lyrics, Duthie explains that they “came from a similar place to the themes and ideas found in many of our other songs. Blue as in, I got the blues, hones in on the rapid and unstoppable rate of change in the way we interact with people. Blue as in, the color of the Twitter and Facebook interface, makes for an ironic double entendre. The things making us sad, is the color of sad, ‘I’m blue’ is both the cause and the symptom!” - Hannah Thacker
